The Lake States Fire Science Consortium (LSFSC) is teaming up with Pheasants Forever (PF) and UW- Platteville to combine 3 National Wildfire Coordinating Group (NWCG) certification courses into a 5 day session!
S-131 (Firefighter Type 1 Training) will qualify you to be a squad boss. S-211 (Portable Pumps and Water Usage) will give you an overview of all mechanized water equipment used on the fire line. S-219 (Firing Operations) gives you the tools to lead ignitions operations.
This will be a great option for those looking to take a step up from crew member to squad boss.
NWCG training courses are nationally recognized and will give you the opportunity to burn with groups throughout the United States at the leadership levels specified above.
Prerequisites:
1. You must've completed NWCG S-130/S-190/L-180 to participate.
2. For S-131 you must be qualified as a Firefighter Type 2 (FFT2). This means you have participated as a crew member on 5+ prescribed burns or wildfires. Otherwise, we can only provide certs for S-211 and S-219.
3. It is recommended to have S-290 before taking S-219, but it's not required.
